John E. Tattersall CFP®, AIF®
President and CEO Financial Services Advisor and Strategist
John is an Ohio native and a graduate of Arizona State University School of Business. During college, he was an intern with Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner & Smith in Scottsdale Arizona for three years, and continued as a summer intern with the floor brokers at the One Liberty Plaza office in New York City. John began his career in the financial services industry in 1988 as an Investment Representative with Merrill Lynch. Additionally, he founded two financial services firms before beginning Tattersall Financial Services. John’s core belief is that business owners cannot be an expert on all things financial; they lack the time to be an expert, and make personal financial decisions based on incomplete or disjointed information. Serving as the “fabric” that weaves the critical components of a financial plan together is the role John plays for his clients, as well as their businesses.
John acquired the prestigious Certified Financial Planner™ certification through the American College in 2007 and the Accredited Investment Fiduciary® designation from FI360 in 2014. He participates regularly with numerous conferences and industry events to increase his intellectual capital, and to contribute to the cause of his client’s needs.
Being present and involved in the lives of his clients and his community is widely known about John. He has been a member of Rotary International since 2000 and served as President of his Club in 2005. Giving back to his community through service activities is a weekly routine. John supports the causes of his business clients and creates networking and informational events on a regular basis. He has coached youth basketball for 11 years; he has made it to the championship three times and won twice.
John is most notably known for his passion for Fly Fishing. He is the owner of Grand Ole Potomac Fly Fishing Guides. Fly Fishing, John says, is the highest evolution of the “fishing specie.” If you strive to be a fisherman then you arrive at Fly Fishing as the end game. It can be extremely difficult with uncooperative fish and frustrating beyond words. John has a unique ability to put people on fish and can teach them how to close the deal. Spending time with clients on the water, he feels allows a certain level of calm and creativity not present in the office setting.
John resides in Sterling Virginia with his wife Hillary. They have two children, Taylor, a graduate of Penn State with a degree in Forensics, and Grant, who studied Marine Sciences at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina, and is now in Clearwater, Florida.
